Miso Glazed Tofu Bowls
This Miso Glazed Tofu Bowl is a simple, flavour-packed meal that’s quick, budget-friendly, and incredibly satisfying. The combination of white miso paste and tamari creates a bold umami marinade that perfectly complements tofu’s neutral profile. It’s high in protein, vegan, gluten-free, and pairs beautifully with rice, noodles, or sautéed greens.
Ingredients Breakdown:
Extra-Firm Tofu:
Extra-firm tofu holds its shape well during cooking and absorbs the miso marinade beautifully. Pressing it removes excess liquid, allowing it to soak up more flavour and achieve a firmer texture.
Onion:
The onion adds sweetness and depth to the marinade. As it cooks down, it enhances the dish with a subtle, caramelized flavour that complements the tofu.
Garlic:
Garlic brings a robust, aromatic quality that elevates the umami-rich miso and tamari. Its savoury kick balances the marinade beautifully.
Olive Oil or Sesame Oil:
These oils are the cooking base, adding richness to the dish. Sesame oil, in particular, enhances the overall flavour with its nutty aroma, perfectly matching the miso’s umami profile.
White Miso Paste:
The star of the marinade! White miso paste provides a mildly sweet, savoury, and slightly tangy flavour. Packed with probiotics and nutrients, it’s a healthy and delicious way to infuse the tofu with bold umami notes.
Tamari:
Tamari is a gluten-free alternative to soy sauce that adds a rich, salty depth to the marinade. It enhances the miso’s savouriness while making the dish suitable for gluten-free diets.
Apple Cider Vinegar:
A splash of apple cider vinegar adds a tangy brightness to the marinade, balancing the saltiness of the tamari and the richness of the miso paste.

Miso Tofu Bowl
Ingredients
- 15 oz extra firm tofu cut into 1/2 in thick cubes
- ½ cup onion diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil or sesame seed oil
- 2 tbsp white miso paste
- 2 tbsp tamari
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Prepare the Tofu: Remove tofu from its package and press it to eliminate excess moisture using a tofu press or by placing it between two plates with a weight on top for 15–20 minutes.
- Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the diced onion, minced garlic, olive oil (or sesame oil), miso paste, tamari, and apple cider vinegar until smooth.
- Marinate the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into ½-inch cubes. Add the cubes to the marinade and toss gently to ensure every piece is evenly coated. Let the tofu marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour for the best flavour.
- Cook the Tofu: Heat a skillet over medium to medium-high heat with a drizzle of oil. Using tongs, carefully place tofu cubes in the skillet, browning each side for 2–3 minutes until crispy and golden.
- Finish with the Marinade: Lower the heat to a simmer. Add the remaining marinade to the skillet and cook for 1–2 minutes until the onions soften and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Serve and Garnish: Plate the tofu over rice noodles or alongside sautéed broccoli or bok choy. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for texture and visual appeal.
