Not only are these poppers super easy to make, but they’re also incredibly versatile. You can customize them based on your preferences, adding in extra spices or toppings, and they come together in no time. They’re perfect for sharing with friends and family, and they also make for a great snack to satisfy your cravings while keeping things healthy and low-carb.

Ingredients for Baked Jalapeño Poppers

These cheesy baked jalapeño poppers are a delightful combination of spicy, creamy, and cheesy goodness, making them the perfect appetizer for any occasion. Here’s a closer look at the key ingredients that bring these poppers to life:

  1. Jalapeños: The star of the dish! The jalapeños bring a zesty, spicy kick. For those who prefer less heat, you can remove the seeds and membranes, which hold most of the heat. You can also opt for milder peppers like Anaheim or banana peppers for a more subtle flavour.
  2. Bacon: Crispy bacon adds an irresistible salty crunch and smoky flavour that pairs perfectly with the creamy cheese filling. If you’re looking to make this dish vegetarian, simply omit the bacon or substitute with a plant-based option like tempeh or coconut bacon for that smoky bite.
  3. Cream Cheese: Cream cheese is the secret to the smooth, creamy filling that holds everything together. It adds richness to the poppers, complementing the cheese and jalapeños with a mild, tangy flavour.
  4. Cheese Mix (Monterey Jack, Cheddar, and Mozzarella): This melty cheese blend is a game-changer! The Monterey Jack brings smoothness, the cheddar adds a sharp tang, and the mozzarella contributes that stringy, gooey texture when baked. This mix creates the perfect creamy and cheesy filling.
  5. Green Onions: Green onions provide a fresh, mild onion flavour that adds a subtle crispness and balances out the richness of the cheese and cream cheese. Plus, they add a pop of colour to make your poppers visually appealing.
  6. Garlic Powder: Garlic powder infuses the filling with a savoury, aromatic flavour that elevates the taste of the cheese mixture. It’s the perfect addition to amplify the dish without overpowering the other ingredients.
  7. Sea Salt: Sea salt enhances the natural flavours of the ingredients, making sure the poppers are perfectly seasoned. If you’re using bacon, you might want to use less salt, as bacon is already salty.
  8. Smoked Paprika: This spice adds a smoky depth to the dish, mimicking the flavour of grilled poppers even when cooked in the air fryer. It complements the bacon and balances the heat from the jalapeños.

Together, these ingredients create a flavour-packed, cheesy filling that perfectly complements the spicy, crisp jalapeños. Whether you make these for a gathering or enjoy them as a snack, the combination of creamy cheese, smoky bacon, and zesty spices is sure to become a favourite.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 jalapeños
  • 2 slices bacon
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup cheese mix Monterey Jack, cheddar, and mozzarella
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

Instructions

  • Cook the Bacon: Start by cooking the bacon until it’s nice and crispy. Once cooked, set it aside on a paper towel to drain excess fat. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small bits.
  • Prep the Jalapeños: Slice the jalapeños in half vertically and discard the seeds. If you like your poppers extra spicy, feel free to leave some seeds in.
  • Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cheese mix (Monterey Jack, cheddar, and mozzarella), half of the crumbled bacon, and half of the green onions. Season the mixture with garlic powder, sea salt, and smoked paprika, and mix everything together until smooth and well combined.
  • Stuff the Jalapeños: Spoon the creamy cheese mixture into each jalapeño half, packing it in tightly.
  • Air Fry the Poppers: Place the stuffed jalapeños in your Air Fryer or Air Fryer toaster oven. Set the temperature to air fry and cook for 12-14 minutes, or until the jalapeños are tender and the cheese is melted and golden brown.
  • Garnish and Serve: Once the poppers are done, remove them from the air fryer and garnish with the remaining bacon bits and sliced green onions. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

These cheesy jalapeño poppers are a perfect combination of creamy, cheesy, and smoky flavours, with just the right amount of heat from the jalapeños. Enjoy them as a quick snack, appetizer, or party treat!

Pro Tip: Wear plastic gloves when cutting the jalapeno’s and removing the seeds. Make sure to avoid touching your eyes or face. If you want to keep it extra spicy, keep the seeds in tack when slicing.
